Minnesota State Poultry Testing Regulations

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health (MBAH) has requirements for poultry at Community Sales and Exhibitions. Poultry is defined as turkeys, chickens, waterfowl, and game birds raised in captivity, excluding pigeons and doves.

All poultry at Community Sales and all chickens, turkeys and game birds at Exhibitions are required to be tested for Salmonella pullorum-typhoid or originate from a National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) flock or hatchery. The owner must have the official test chart or test report from the Minnesota Poultry Testing Laboratory (MPTL) to verify compliance prior to the show or sale. The MN Board of Animal Health does not require testing for Avian Influenza (AI) at this time. Please contact the MPTL at 320-231-5170 if you are in need of an Authorized Poultry Testing Agent who can assist with the testing.

All poultry must be individually identified with a leg or wing band with a number on the band. The band number on the bird must match the test chart if a test chart is used. The Board of Animal Health may have a representative at all the swaps and shows checking compliance with these requirements.
